Law of Attraction and World Religions

The Law of Attraction (LOA), which states that reality can be manifested simply be thinking or attracting certain phenomena, has created a good deal of discussion during the past few years. Although essentially rooted in the theory of Quantum Physics, there is some concern that this “law” should be placed alongside other belief-based laws, like the ‘Law of Karma,’ instead of scientific laws, such as the law of gravity.

Each of the world's primary religious traditions, from Buddhism, to Christianity, to Hinduism, to Islam, to Judaism, and even Paganism, professes certain insights for navigating life. The Law of Attraction has managed to present its own ‘law’ in such a fashion that each tradition can resonate within it.

Becoming aware of what you think and what you want to manifest in life is the first step of the LOA. This starting point is not dissimilar to other religious practices like meditation or prayer. The LOA can also be viewed as akin to various 'cleansing rites' that are present in various religious traditions.

“Ask and you shall receive” is a popularly quoted refrain located in the Christian Bible that echoes closely the basic concept of the LOA. “Allah has given you free will” and "Allah is closer to you than your jugular vein” are tenets of the Quran and the Islamic faith. "All that we are is the result of what we have thought” is a pronouncement attributed to Buddha that closely resembles the teachings of the LOA. “The world is like a mirror, you see? Smile, and your friends smile back...” is a Zen saying. The concept of a person’s thoughts and beliefs situating the individual in the world around them is found throughout Hindu doctrines. All of these concepts underlie the basic LOA dynamic of manifestation.

The Law of Attraction is primarily concerned with assisting someone in improving their life, which is central to every one of the world's faiths. Indeed, it does appear that the teachings of Buddha, Mahavir, the Rishis of the Vedas, Moses, Jesus or Mohammad closely coincide with the central premise of the Law of Attraction.
