Many people think the Law of Attraction is something the new age movement discovered. Without much effort you can find that it has its roots in the Jewish writings of the Torah and later in the book of Proverbs of the Bible. In Proverbs chapter 27 verse 3, it states that “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he…” This means that the concept of the Law of Attraction was considered over 6,000 years ago.
The concept of the Law of Attraction can also be found in Hinduism and at the turn of the century scientists used it in terms of its reference to the formation of matter. Looking further into the sciences, some relate the law to quantum physics. All this is very interesting as the Law of Attraction does indicate that what you think and feel affects your life. If this does relate to quantum physics does that mean what you think affects matter?
Buddha said that “All that we are is a result of what we have thought.” And then back to the Bible, Job 3:25 says “What I have greatly feared has come upon me.”
In 1906, William Walker Atkinson wrote a book on the subject that was summarized as “you are what you think, not what you think you are.” Other Theosophical writers used the phrase Law of Attraction in their writings during those early 1900s also.
It was in 2006 that the movie "The Secret" brought the phrase to the forefront of media attention and people’s minds. At a time when it seemed that a person had no control over anything in their life, the Law of Attraction was very seductive. The basics of the Law of Attraction are that if you think positive thoughts, you attract positive people and positive situations. If you think thoughts that are negative and fearful, those are the types of people and circumstances you will attract into your life.
