Ever since Darwin presented his theory of evolution about 200 years ago, there has been a schism between those who believe in creationism as stated in Genesis, the first book of the Bible, and those who believe in the evolution of human beings from lower forms of life, as presented in Darwin's "Origin of the Species." More recently, creationism has taken on a new form called "Intelligent Design" (I.D.). According to this, the yet unknown areas in evolutionary explanation are more significant than the convincing totality of this theory.
As more and more scientific studies are carried out on the human brain, showing how human will and passions can be changed by the effect and influence of various hormones and chemicals, the concept of a soul without the functions and effects of glands seems difficult to accept. On the other hand there is still a strong belief that the entire universe, including humans was planned and created by God. The only question then is the six day period of creation. How long is God's day? Is God's creation static? We know that the universe is still changing, and some scientific studies have shown that the brain is also enlarging over the years. Can we deny God's ability to make changes in his own creation?
On the other hand, the question arises: can religion stand against available and ever-increasing scientific knowledge? Religion does not have to stand against science, because most scientists believe in a creator of the universe, or God. The universe, not only our world, is too well organized, with unremitting laws of nature, to have evolved from chaos without a pattern. That pattern to a religious person comes from the creator, God.
